2 Perfect Days in Venice

2 Perfect Days in Venice

Venice is a romantic and fairy-tale-like city, the perfect place to aimlessly wander down cobblestone streets and alongside canals while soaking up the atmosphere. Pay attention to the details, such as the way the golden evening light reflects on the canals or the way the high heels of the stylish Italian women clip clop on the streets. The ornate architecture of this city is largely the same as it was 600 years ago and it is a living monument to the glorious days of the Italian Renaissance.

Two days is not enough time to see all of Venice, but it’s certainly enough to get a taste of the romance and culture of this watery city. Here are some ideas of what you can do on your visit:

Day One

  • Enjoy breakfast within the lovely Tea Room of the Ancient Venice Bed and Breakfast while admiring the views of the city.
  • Check out some of the amazing views from the island of San Giorgio, looking over the Grand Canal and the Doges Palace. While you are there, visit the church designed by Andrea Palladio in 1555.
  • Visit one of the opulent casinos from the 18th century, where the aristocracy used to socialise and gamble. Casino Vernier is a great example, dating back to 1750 and overlooking the Barateri Canal. The ornate décor features marble floors, frescoes, Murano mirrors and other gorgeous details.
  • Take a look at the Basilica de San Marco, the historic church that sits on the popular square of the same name and was originally built in 828.
  • Peruse the Gallerie dell’Accademia, an art museum that was established by Napolean and is brimming with impressive Venetian Art.
  • See a performance at the famous Teatro La Fenice, one of the oldest opera houses in Italy. Make sure that you book in advance, these performances are very popular.

Day Two

  • Start your day off with a coffee from E Rosa Salva. Italians drink small cups of strong espresso quickly while standing at the counter – so down a quick dose of caffeine before you begin sightseeing.
  • Taking a gondola ride down the canals is an absolute must. It’s a lovely way to see the city from a different perspective and you will get some insider anecdotes from your charming tour guide.
  • Take a quiet moment in the afternoon to walk through San Michelle Cemetery. It is a peaceful place where you will find lovely tomb carvings and the graves of several famous names including Igor Stravinsky, Ezra Pound and Joseph Brodsky.
  • If you are visiting with your sweetheart, go on a romantic dinner cruise on board the Venetian Galleon.
  • Spend the evening sipping cocktails and listening to live jazz music at the famous Venice Jazz Club, a popular venue among music lovers.

These are just a few ideas of what you can do during a two day trip to Venice. Bring your walking shoes and explore as much of this beautiful city as you can during your visit.
