Christmas is well on the way and you’re looking to find luxury Christmas gifts for your grandma. This is no easy task, as grandparents tend to have rather discerning tastes when it comes to these matters. Fear not, however, because our TRULY tastemakers have found some of the best presents around.
We know there can be few gifts as coveted as a tasting menu at some of Britain’s top Michelin star restaurants. Take The Square, for example. Located in the heart of Mayfair, the restaurant has been at the top of London’s dining scene since it opened back in 1991.
So it’s little surprise that it now holds two Michelin stars. Treat your grandma to the French inspired tasting menu, which also includes a glimpse behind-the-scenes with a kitchen meet and greet. It’s fair to presume she will be blown away.
Her Very Own Bespoke Perfume
Yes, you read it right. We can even have your grandma design her very own bespoke, unique fragrance. And this isn’t at your average high street shop. No, sir. We’re talking about the oldest perfumer in Britain, no less. Floris are also Royal Warrant holders.
She will first discuss her preferences with the expert resident perfumer, before the two compose the perfect blend for your grandma’s very own unique perfume.
Maison Ladurée is a house of many wonders. Most of which come in the form of colourful bijou gems that melt in the mouth. Yes, it’s the world’s most famous macaron makers. Take your grandma to this high-class destination to enjoy macarons with champagne. A treat and a half.
If you want the full works, you can even enjoy a macaron-inspired afternoon tea. Champagne is included here too, along with patisserie treats, sandwiches and tea or coffee.
Ah, tea. The nation’s favourite drink. But did you know we really don’t get half the enjoyment out of it that we should? Ditch your industrial made tea bags and head to the Rare Tea Company, where the most extraordinary teas from all over the world, sourced personally by the company’s founder, Henrietta Lovell, can be tasted.
You can even have your grandma create her very own bespoke blend. This comes with a three month supply of the stuff.
Grandma’s Favourite Tipple
Yeah, we’ve all heard the jokes. Sherry’s your grandma’s favourite tipple. Well, in actual fact, it’s seeing something of a renaissance in the UK among younger drinkers, where the popularity of the fortified wine has taken off. There’s even a scientific reason for why it’s just so good.
Treat her to 5-star sherry tasting at the Halkin Bar. All of the very fine sherries will be paired with matching tapas, while instruction will be provided by an expert member of the bar team.
If sherry doesn’t happen to be grandma’s favourite tipple afterall, there’s always gin and bitter tasting instead.
L’Etranger restaurant is probably London’s best kept secret. They’re getting a little tired of it now, though. While it lasts, it’s the perfect opportunity to treat grandma to a delicious brunch at the Kensington location.
Inspired by French and Japanese flavours, the grub here is nothing short of sublime. What you might expect, given chef-patron Jerome Tauvron is a student of the likes of Guérard, Roux and Ducasse. You might well be sharing the dining space with the likes of Prince Harry or Liz Hurley too – both previous visitors to the restaurant.
Total relaxation can be achieved at the Rosewood London’s Sense Spa. The zen themed treatment rooms take guests away to another world, while the luxurious sauna and steam room really do leave one feeling lighter and refreshed.
We can only hope grandmothers can pull themselves away from the spa in time for the elegant lunch that is included as part of this extraordinary experience.
