2 Perfect Days: What to Do in Rome

The Eternal City is rich with history, culture, beautiful architecture and delicious food – making it the ideal place to relax and enjoy la dolce vita (the sweet life). There is much more to discover here than you can possibly see in two days, but a short visit is enough time to get a taste of the city. Here are some ideas of what you can do during 2 perfect days in Rome:

Day 1

  • Check out the ruins of Torre Argentina, the remains of four temples and a theatre where Julius Caesar is thought to have been assassinated. This archaeological site is known for the dozens of stray cats that make their home there and in the 1990s a shelter was created to feed and provide medical care for the felines.
  • Bring your camera along and take a guided photography tour. This ancient city holds incredible beauty just waiting to be captured and a local photographer can help you to take the best shots of the city.
  • Of course, you cannot miss the dazzling cultural wealth of The Vatican museums and St. Peter’s Basilica. You can spend hours admiring the sculptures, paintings, frescos and other works of art.
  • Go shopping at the urban market in the hip quarter of Monti on the weekend. You will find everything from funky handicrafts to retro clothing and accessories to beautiful jewellery.
  • Take a hike up the hill Gianicolo, which offers a stunning view of the domes and spires of the city. It is the perfect place to enjoy a picnic and gaze out over Rome as the sun sets.

Day 2

  • Admire the perfect proportions of the Pantheon, a building made even more impressive by the fact that it was constructed in 120 AD.
  • You cannot visit Rome without stopping at the Colosseum. This gladiatorial area is the most thrilling ancient ruin in the city and it’s amazing to stand within it and imagine it filled with a roaring crowd of spectators cheering on gladiators fighting each other or battling wild animals.
  • If you have enjoyed your trip to Rome, tradition says that you should throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain with your right hand over your left shoulder to ensure that you return someday. The beautiful Trevi Fountain is worth seeing even if you don’t believe in this tradition, as it has some truly impressive sculptures.
  • Walk through history at the Roman Forum. This area was once the epicentre of the enormous Roman Empire.
  • Visit Galleria Borghese, considered one of the best museums in Rome. The magnificent collections are housed in a 17th century villa and they include many fine examples of Renaissance and Baroque art.
  • Treat yourself to a meal at one of the best restaurants in Rome so that you can taste Italian cooking at its finest. Consider checking out Fortunato al Pantheon, DitiRambo, Antico Arco and Matricianella.

These are just a few ideas for spending 2 perfect days in Rome, so why not start planning your trip to this amazing city?
